What is a Graphic Design Platform?
Graphic design is simply the ability to generate visual content, communicate messages, and create interactive designs.
What is a Graphic Design Platform?
Graphic design platforms are designed-centric websites for publishing content and selling products. Although these websites can be found in several different markets, the purpose is largely to unite designers, publishers, and companies into an online community that supports creativity while generating revenue. Many graphic design platforms also feature an extensive collection of free resources for the designer to explore.
Examples: Behance, Designspiration, DeviantArt
What are the benefits of using a graphic design platform?
Designers are constantly coming up with new designs and ideas which they have difficulty selling or getting published in other non-design-oriented media outlets. Publishing designs on a site such as DeviantArt has made it easier for designers to find customers and generate sales.
One of the most popular benefits is the ability to generate revenue. Design Loft is a platform for designers and developers to showcase their work and a place for people to purchase quality designs. They have also created an app called DesignShop which allows users on different social media sites like Twitter and Facebook to publish their work on DesignLoft instead. Not only does this give them the ability to post elsewhere, but it also gives them another way to generate revenue since they can now sell designs in multiple places.
Some platforms give artists and designers a chance at publication with no upfront costs.
The Design Spark website offers aspiring designers and artists the ability to upload their work as well as a library filled with curated designs. This site is geared towards students, but anyone who uploads their artwork will have access to the same content. After six months of uploading, authors are given full publication rights and a free book cover for their work. In addition to this, authors and designers can also sell their work on the platform with no royalties or profits being passed on from the company back to them.
Some platforms offer more than just an opportunity for artists/designers to publish their creative works.
Design Loft is an example of a site that provides designers with a way to sell their work without passing on profits to the company. Although they provide opportunities for people to pay for advertisements on the site, if people just want to publish their work or sell it, they can advertise on the site, they have the option to do so freely.
Platforms that combine design with other types of media such as art, music, and writing make it easy for content to be found by users with similar interests. Design Loft has multiple channels in which content can be published and shared including Design Spark which allows users to submit designs into a collection that is then displayed on the Design Loft homepage.
